Maple Grove American Legion baseball team wraps up good season

Congrats to our Maple Grove American Legion baseball team on finishing the year with a good record and a strong showing at the sub-state tournament. Post 172 posted a 19-5 record this season.

MG won their first game in sub-state play 5-3 over Monticello. Luke Hanson was 3 for 4 with 4 RBI and Nathan Martinson pitched 7 innings, posting 6 strikeouts, for the win.

Post 172 then had an 11-3 win over Excelsior 2. Haydon Thompson pitched 8 innings with 11 K’s. In round two, the MG Crimson lost an 11-inning game with St. Michael 7-5. Maple Grove’s season ended with a 17-12 defeat at the hands of Elk River. The MG squad had 20 hits, but it wasn’t enough.

Post 172 highlights for the season included winning the North Hennepin League title with a 9-1 record and winning the St. Cloud Chutes Tournament. Congrats to Maple Grove manager Pete Hess and his players on a great year.
