Our beloved Minnesota Vikings are playing the Carolina Panthers this Sunday.
We are confident the Vikings are going to win (it’ll be our 9th win in a row!). But it’s also a good time to review the various ways Minnesota is better than North Carolina. This list was provided by some of our friends who are working with Minnoco and others.
- MN is tops in biofuels!
While Minnesota and North Carolina are both among the 29 states where E15 gasoline is available to drivers, Minnesota is the clear winner win it comes to the use of cleaner, greener American-made biofuels. We were the first state to include ethanol in all of our fuel – helping make our air cleaner by displacing toxic fuel additives linked to cancer and smog and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Maybe that’s why Minnesota has cleaner air than North Carolina according to the United Health Foundation.
- MN is tops in turkey
In the holiday season, we all love eating turkey. No one does turkey better than North Carolina and Minnesota, which are home to the nation’s two largest turkey producers: Butterball’s headquarters are in Garner, N.C.; Jennie-O is based in Willmar, Minn.
But Minnesota is #1! Minnesota produced 46 million turkeys 2012, according to the Agricultural Marketing Resource Center at Iowa State University while North Carolina raised fewer birds, 36 million.
- Best Music Minnesota is the home state of both Prince and Bob Dylan. Tough to beat.
- The Hockey Haircut
Nobody has better hockey hair “flow” than Minnesota. People in North Carolina just learned what hockey is in recent years. And, of course, the coach of the “Miracle on Ice” 1980 Olympic Championship team, Herb Brooks, was a Minnesotan and there were more Minnesotans on the team than players from any other state.
This iconic fashionware was invested in Minnesota in 1988 by two bodybuilders. North Carolina has only contributed ripped jeans to the fashion world.
- Best Food – The Jucy Lucy
Minnesota invented the cheeseburger that has the cheese in the middle of the burger – the Jucy Lucy. Amazing.
- Lots of Lakes
The Land of 10,000 Lakes (actually more than 11,000 lakes, but we’re humble) has more shoreline than California, Hawaii and Florida combined.
- Important Inventions
Invented in Minnesota – the pacemaker (Medtronic), wet/dry sandpaper, masking tape, Post-It Notes and Scotch tape (3M), Wheaties cereal, Bisquick, the bundt pan, the grocery bag with handles, the furnace thermostat, the Nerf ball, Twister, Aveda beauty products, water skis, electronic autopilot, the snowblower, Green Giant vegetables, open heart surgery, the indoor shopping center, rollerblades and the stapler. North Carolina may have invented cut-off shorts. On behalf of Minnesota, you’re welcome.
- Lastly, there’s a reason it’s called “Minnesota Nice”
